To Bee or Not To Bee

"To Bee or Not To Bee" Under normal circumstances this quote wouldn’t draw too much attention. It hasn’t, other than from beekeepers, until recently. Are you aware 70% of the bee population on the East Coast has been diminished? Did you know that the bee population on the West Coast is down by 60%? Europe is now also experiencing wide spread and devastating losses in its bee community. Hmmmm..... Does that quote have your attention now? Before planning for doomsday four years from now, there is yet to surface more supportive material on this quote. But it doesn’t take a well noted scientist to understand the implications of the latest natural dilemma the planet is facing. One third of the American diet is reliant on bee pollination. If farmers don’t have enough bees to pollinate the crops, they rent them. Shipping in hives for short term rental is a staple good in the industry. What happens if there are no bees to rent? What happens to the crops if there are no bees to pollinate? Simply put…it means, there is no harvest. I guess that means the produce department of the grocery store will get even smaller. As is, the most important food you can fuel you body with only constitutes about 10% of the typical supermarket. There are some theories as to what is effecting the bee population, but it seems one of the most popular is the influence of radiation from mobile phone usage. Evidently it can disrupt a bee’s ability to navigate its way back to the hive, making for a lot of homeless and wayward bees. This is devastating to the colony, and the queen bee that depends on the synergistic system of cooperative living. Scarier still, is that the normal parasitic critters that devour naturally collapsing bee colonies won’t go near the hives, also disrupting the flow of Mother Nature’s way of recycling waste. While the world will debate over the cause, and try to figure out whom or what to blame, the study done at Landau University will probably become an “inconvenient truth”. The study discovered that when a mobile phone is placed near a hive bees will no longer return. Hmmmmm….does it take a PhD to pay attention to those implications? Considering cell phone use, and the increase of towers has exploded over the last few years will the bees have a fighting chance? How many of us have given up our land lines and gone completely mobile to save expenses? Are we actually cutting off our mouths to spite our ears? Hopefully this will get you thinking, paying attention, and making wise choices! Good Articles on the Subject Are Mobile Phones Wiping Out Our Bees?
